Rutherford County, Tennessee

If you are fascinated with the Civil War or want to learn more about our American History, then don’t miss Rutherford County. Discover living history presentations at Stones River National Battlefield, where 80,000 Civil War troops fought just outside of Murfreesboro. At the end of this fierce three-day battle, there were over 23,000 casualties. Oaklands Historic House Museum in Murfreesboro was the largest plantation in Rutherford County at the time of the Civil War. The mansion has been lovingly restored to its original grandeur. It served as the headquarters for Confederate President Jefferson Davis while he was in Murfreesboro.

Be sure to visit the Sam Davis Home in Smyrna and learn the tragic story of this 21-year-old Confederate hero. The home is just the way it was when Sam lived there as a boy in the 1800’s. Other interesting sites include the Children’s Discovery House, Cannonsburgh Village and the historic Rutherford County Courthouse.
